Reunion - 22 November 2010
dear Volunteers, Irish people may not be aware that the kibbutz movement in Israel is 100 years old this year. This movement, which began 40 years before the foundation of the state of Israel, brought together people from many nations, including Ireland, in an experiment that combined communal living with productive agricultural work. At a time of global recession, when many are disillusioned with economic philosophies of left and right, those who spent a part of their lives on an Israeli kibbutz may value the experience as a unique opportunity they had to take part in a model of humble, hard working practical socialism. All over Ireland there are people who have enjoyed this enriching experience. To celebrate the centenary of this non-governmental movement, Irish kibbutz veterans are invited to a reunion to take place in November (22-24/11/2010) in Dublin. This is an opportunity, regardless of current political or other views, to share and swap memories of the kibbutz experience with others. Any former volunteer in a kibbutz, or anyone who ever visited a kibbutz or would like to do so in the future, or anyone interested in knowing more about the kibbutz movement, can send an e-mail to: Kibbutz.Ireland@gmail.com We would love to see you. read on.
